     Over 27 years of technical and supervisory experience installing, maintaining, and testing optical, digital and analog communications networks, systems and personnel. The majority of my supervisory skills and technical experience is rooted from a military background where I served as a staff non-commissioned officer for over 11 years.  As a non-commissioned officer in the US Army I held multiple management positions such as Company Headquarters Platoon Sergeant, Operations Non-Commissioned Officer, Communications Maintenance Facility Manager, Company Information System Site Power Manager, Technical Control Facility Supervisor, and Military Occupational Skills Instructor/Writer. Project management experience was a fraction of my daily responsibilities and was documented in my annual military evaluation reports, awards, decorations, and certificates of appreciation. Switch experience includes MAP Terminal interface with the NORTEL SL-100/SL-100P switch at a Department of Defense Technical Control Facility at Camp Red Cloud, Uijongbu, South Korea.

 

 

WORK HISTORY

 

     Installer IV (Bluestream Professional Services)                                                  August 2015 – Present

 

  As an Installer IV for Bluestream Professional Services, my primary responsibility is to install and test primarily Cisco 15454 M6/M12 ROADM/SONET shelf configurations. I also play a role as a team member performing customer augmentations to add cards, cabling, upgrades, and/or configuration changes in the Cisco 15454 M6/M12 systems. Proficient in provisioning 10Gig/OC192 over IOC and as well as TL1 command knowledge to accomplish the tasks needed to complete job assignments. Familiar with various protocols used in Layer 2 telecommunications networks, RFC Enet/Optical testing and capturing test results. Also familiar with OTDR and OSA test equipment used to isolate trouble in optical spans and scan spans for optical power on wavelengths and capturing test data on filters and composites. I am also responsible for submitting recommendations for process improvements in the field.

 

 

     Field Tech IV (Bluestream)                                              June 2013 – February 2015

 

  As a Field Tech IV for Bluestream, I perform test and acceptance on multiple product lines such as Ciena, Cisco, Tellabs and Fujitsu products. I also perform tasks at customer locations such as fiber chacterizations test and analysis, site audits, software upgrades port and core expansions, nodal insertions, and troubleshoot faulty equipment. In addition I am responsible for training other personnel in the field on these same products. I am also responsible for submitting recommendations for process improvements in the field.

 

 

     Field Service Engineer 3 (Tellabs Operations, Inc.)                                       December 2005 – June 2013

 

  As a Field Service Engineer for Tellabs I perform test and acceptance procedures on multiple product lines such as the Titan 5500, 5500 NGX/S and MX, 7100, and 8800 products. I also perform tasks at customer locations such as site quarterly audits, software upgrades port and core expansions, nodal insertions, and troubleshoot faulty equipment. In addition I am responsible for training other personnel in the field on these same products. My scope of work also includes filing test documentation at a shared drive on a Tellabs server and printing the results leaving them at the site for the customer. I am also responsible for submitting recommendations for process improvements in the field.

 

 

     Contractor Engineer (COMFORCE for Tellabs)                                  September 2005 – December 2005

 

  As a contractor engineer for Comforce I was responsible for upgrading software, network modules and hard drives at Bellsouth facilities in 9 states for Tellabs. I also assisted with port and core expansions, new system acceptance testing, troubleshooting system issues, and performing quarterly audits at Cingular, Sprint, T-Mobile, Bellsouth and Verizon sites in the southeast United States.

 

 

    Technician II (LEVEL 3 Communications)                                            February 2003 – December 2004

 

  As a Technician II performed Outside/Inside Plant maintenance and repairs on the NORSCAN fiber optic monitoring system throughout the metro and long haul fiber routes surrounding Tampa, Florida. My scope of work also included OSP cable protection responsibilities as well as inside plant technical duties where I install, test and turn-up all aspects of Level 3 Communications equipment. Additional responsibilities included vehicle preventive maintenance, remote facility technician, GN NETTEST OTDR calibration and upgrade coordinator, Radiodetection equipment calibrations and repair coordinator, CINTAS safety items procurement coordinator, NORSCAN Cable Monitoring System maintenance and repairs, and SENTINAL cable locate ticket supervisor for the long haul north fiber route. I have also been assigned and completed numerous special projects.

 

 

    Field Service Engineer (GENUITY)                                                      November 1999 – February 2003

 

Scope of work included test, maintenance, and management of DS1 thru OC48 circuits. Daily tasks included the install and cross-connection of facility fiber, coax cable and CAT-5 within the regional POP Facility.  As the company resident expert on the Titan 5500 digital cross-connect system I provided technical support, guidance and troubleshooting assistance to field engineers operating nine Titan 5500s throughout the United States.  As the Titan 5500 DACS trainer for the company I conducted training to 20 Network Operations Center personnel in Burlington, Massachusetts, and Dallas, Texas. I also constructed software database tools using Microsoft Office programs to manage preventive maintenance, nodal spreadsheets data and connection information. 

 

 

 

     Field Service Engineer (TELLABS INC.)                                      AUGUST 1999 – NOVEMBER 1999

 

As a field engineer, working in the technical support department, I provided assistance to TELLABS engineers, installers, and customers worldwide to resolve 3rd level support issues.  My scope of work included test and acceptance of new and live traffic bearing TITAN 5500/s DACS systems. Perform software upgrades and software patch installations. Test and troubleshoot network complex micro-coax strands, initialize/troubleshoot external timing sources, and test/troubleshoot/provision electrical and optical circuit packs and communication relay racks. I was the direct liaison between the customer and TELLABS for all customer satisfaction issues relating to the installation, upgrade, and expansion order. As a Field Service Engineer, my primary goal was to ensure TELLABS products operate in the field as guaranteed by our company and to exceed all customer satisfaction expectations and requirements.

 

 

     Customer Service Engineer (BALLAS Engineering)                        OCTOBER 1998 – AUGUST 1999

 

As a contractor my primary function was to perform test and acceptance, port expansions, software upgrades, core expansions, and troubleshoot newly installed and live TITAN 5500 series DACS systems. I was responsible for the administrative portion of a job assignment between TELLABS and the customer. As a Customer Service Engineer my primary responsibility was to ensure the Titan 5500 DACS operated within specified parameters and to insure the highest in customer satisfaction.

 

 

     Technical Support Engineer (American Technical Resources)         APRIL 1998 – OCTOBER 1998

 

As a technical support engineer I developed software tools for the Defense Information System Network transition project and manage team. I reviewed Telecommunications Service Requests (TSRs) for accuracy and applicability, requesting changes as necessary, and advising the project manager. I provided technical support to field engineer personnel testing DS-0 through DS-3 circuits and coordinated switch translations for digital circuit cut-over.  I coordinated with the Defense Information System Agency (DISA), AT&T, and site personnel to correct deficiencies in the location of circuit drop off, system connectivity, and switch configuration issues. Duties included generating reports to management reflecting current status of the project, performing access database entry of daily events and status of on-going project issues. I also acted as a circuit cut-over manager switching voice and data circuits to the MCI network from AT&T networks in support of the DISN project.

 

 

 Microwave Systems Operator/Maintainer Instructor/Writer              JANUARY 1996 - MARCH 1998

 

Primary function was instructing theory, operation, and maintenance concepts of microwave communications systems, multi-rate speed Time Division Multiplexed systems, and quality control of analog/digital circuits including DS1/T1 trunks. I instructed military and civilian personnel on the use of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting and alignment of microwave communication systems. As a personnel manager I conducted periodic performance and academic progressive counseling to students.  I also managed the classroom equipment maintenance and the quality of classroom instruction and testing criteria.

 

 

 Technical Control Facility Supervisor                                              MARCH 1995 - DECEMBER 1995

 

I supervised five military and nine Korean National civilian technicians at a United States Department of Defense Communications Systems (DCS) Technical Control Facility (TCF). I scheduled quality control and periodic power systems exercises for 19 communications sites maintaining stand-by generators and battery float systems. I managed the maintenance of AT&T fiber multiplexing equipment, satellite, hub, and KG-95 communications security devices. I performed maintenance on AGS Plug Cisco routers and associated equipment including modem programming, testing and, modifying wiring configurations supporting customer terminal devices.

 

 

Communications Electronics Maintenance Supervisor                FEBRUARY 1993 - FEBRUARY 1995

 

During this period I supervised the operation of six TV microwave transceiver sites, three FM transmitter relay facilities, four AM transmitter relay facilities, six dial central offices, and nine technical control facilities.  Significant accomplishments include earning an associate degree from the University of Maryland and also earning the title of “1st Signal Brigade Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year”.

I installed, operated, and maintained man-packed portable UHF mobile communications equipment in support of worldwide deployments of Joint Staff directed missions. I managed the maintenance of radio and test equipment valued at more than 3 million dollars. I fabricated cables for a variety of network configurations of digital satellite communications systems.  Installed and configured multi-rate voice (MRVC) cards, mobile and fixed fax machines, secure computer systems, and a variety of UHF antenna systems.  Also operated data security communications equipment, narrow and wide-band secure voice equipment, and Motorola UHF/VHF line of site and satellite radio sets (LST-5A-C), RF amplifiers, ship board UHF satellite communications radios AN/WSC-3&A, URC-101, URC-110, and AN/PSC-3.

 

 

     Ultra High Frequency Maintenance Supervisor                                  JUNE 1990 – OCTOBER 1991

 

Performed maintenance and trained Army, Navy, Air-Force and Marine personnel on Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) time division multiplexer set. I installed operated and maintained the Motorola SUNBURST digital processor. I prepared joint service personnel and equipment for deployment missions supporting operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Deployed to Bahrain to maintain a combination

Duties include primary trainer of Georgia Air National Guard personnel on operation and maintenance of UHF satellite communications systems. I assisted in planning of a proto-type system incorporating HAWK missile battery systems with a mobile UHF satellite communications terminal (AN/MSC-71).  Fabricated communication cables used to prepare and operate SATCOM equipment supporting world wide deployments and missions for the Joint Chief of Staff.

Supervisor of five technicians performing module level replacement and repair on mobile satellite terminal and repeater shelters with associated time division multiplexed and cryptographic equipment. I managed the periodic maintenance inspections program for the company fleet of mobile microwave systems and equipment.  I supervised periodic preventive maintenance on vehicles, power generation equipment, DC plant, UPS, and battery float systems.
